Verbwriting
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Writing is the representation of language in a textual medium through the use of a set of signs or symbols (known as a writing system). It is distinguished from illustration, such as cave drawing and painting, and non-symbolic preservation of language via non-textual media, such as magnetic tape audio. Writing is an extension of human language across time and space. Writing most likely began as a consequence of political expansion in ancient cultures, which needed reliable means for transmitting information, maintaining financial accounts, keeping historical records, and similar activities. Around the 4th millennium BC, the complexity of trade and administration outgrew the power of memory, and writing became a more dependable method of recording and presenting transactions in a permanent form. In both Mesoamerica and Ancient Egypt writing may have evolved through calendrics and a political necessity for recording historical and environmental events. From Wikipedia under the

In my experience, publishers tend to want at least 75,000 words (although publishers can vary) - If you are writing a children's book may be less. Have a look at this site though as it says it will publish novellas (longer than a traditional short story - shorter than a novel) Good Luck Answered by David - Sun Nov 5 14:02:01 2006 Should I contact references before writing a query letter? Q. I want to write a freelance article on a specific topic, and am getting ready to write query letters. I know it's important to give sources of where I would be getting my information and people I can interview. Should I find and contact possible sources prior to writing the query letter so I can give specific names of people, or just generally say "I am planning to interview doctors specializing in...?" Which is better and more effective? I'd love some advice from successful freelance writers, if possible. Thanks! Asked by zapp_12 - Wed Jun 10 13:25:26 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Always set up interviews in advance and conduct the interviews. You might not need the interview this time, but the time you put in can be useful later on. Stating you have interviewed this list of experts on this topic is helpful. It shows you are prepared and serious. It will save the publisher time and effort. Give the name of the person interviewed, their job position and the date of the interview. Some fields change quickly and new breakthroughs can make an old interview useless. If the publisher shows any interest, ask them if there are any other interviews they want done for the piece. Calculate expenses for the interviews already done and any additional interviews the publisher requires. Q. I've written this novel that I've been working on... about four times in the third person. After this fourth time i realized... maybe its not something I need to change in the story, maybe it's all about perspective. Upon this realization (which I made all of six minutes ago) I decided to write in the first person. A big failure of the first four drafts (in the third person) was that readers could not get a feel for the character, or the character's emotions. What are some things i should remember while writing in the first person? Asked by Michael G - Mon Apr 13 00:24:43 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. 1) Your character can't say what other characters are feeling. So you can't write: -- "I hate you!" I screamed. Phil was heartbroken at the words as tears burned out of his eyes. -- Your character can't know that Phil is heartbroken, she can only know what she feels and what she observes. -- "I hate you!" I screamed. Phil's expression froze, and tears spilled out of his eyes without him even blinking them out. -- See how all of Phil's description is external? Your character observes and makes judgments based on the observations. Your character can only guess how Phil feels. 2) Your character can't talk about things unless she is there to tell about them. You can't say: -- While I was at the supermarket, Tina came looking for me.
